The inspiration began when San Francisco native and owner, Barbara Lym arrived a day early for a business trip and found herself in Lincoln Park, one of Chicago’s well known trendy shopping districts and it was an "ah ha" moment.... She stepped foot into Art Effects Boutique, cleverly recognized as a "modern day general store" which had everything from women’s clothing, accessories, skin/body care and gifts for any occasion. The notion of it being a ‘one-stop shop’ inspired Barb to create a niche of her own. The space is fun, funky and energetic where shoppers rifle through racks and discover new items to update their wardrobe. Browsing in a bright and colorful upbeat (a variety of tunes always playing) environment makes shopping fun. It was important to bring contemporary designers that were higher end, offering quality and casual style with a classic influence---updated but not too trendy. One thing is clear. The name Serendipity defines what each visit is to their customers; an unexpected surprise, from baby gifts, books, cards and candles to fashionable handbags, jewelry, great fitting jeans, a white t-shirt or an outfit for the evening.
