While strolling through a trendy
Chicago shopping district in 2002,
Barbara Lym had a retail epiphany.
Charmed by the decorated storefronts
and friendly service, she
realized that something was missing
back in Sacramento. Although
Lym had no experience in retail, she
did know what she liked and what
the Sacramento area lacked. She
knew that it was vital to make the
shopping experience energetic, fun,
and uplifting. In that serendipitous
moment, her East Sacramento
boutique was born. Five months
later, Lym opened the doors of Serendipity,
offering everything from
contemporary clothing to accessories
and gifts. She designed her
upscale store to appeal to everyone,
from college students and
moms to working professionals
and gift-seeking husbands. Today,
some of the store’s most popular
designers include Theory, Trina
Turk, James Perse, Velvet, and a
plethora of denim lines, typically
found in Neiman’s or Barney's. As
the store approaches its third anniversary,
Lym is introducing contemporary
men’s lines, something
she feels the Sacramento scene also
lacks. These lines, including Juicy
Couture, Blue Cult, Stitch’s, and
James Perse, will appeal to the
man who desires an updated look
with a better quality, fit and comfort.
Located next to Selland’s
Market, Serendipity has not only
energized H Street, but has introduced
a whole new look and feel
to shopping in Sacramento. |
